Skirt Obsessed

Have you ever been in love with a skirt so much it hurt?  That's how I describe my feelings about this skirt from ASOS CURVE!  A elastic skater skirt.  Comfortable, stylish and will probably never be dated.  I have worn it a total of 4 times since I got it and its my go to item every time I need to look somewhat dressy!

On this day however I just wore it for the sake of not being able to get enough of it.  I paired it wish my DSW boots, a printed button blouse from Lane Braynt and a hate I got from a street vendor!  I hope you enjoy the look they were taken back stage of rehearsal for our semester end's Opera scenes performance!

Leopard Dress!

I love wearing dresses.  I believe it's the time you feel the most girly!!!  I also, think people treat you different when you are wearing a dress!  Guys call you sweetheart, women smile at you and of course there are the cattle calls and whistles!  But what does that matter when you love the dress your in?  I have worn this dress on here before!  About two years ago for my birthday and it is still one of my favorites.  It's from torrid, it has slight boning and its leopard!  Leopard!!!  I paired it with sandals and a cover up because it was cold that night!  Not to mention my favorite vendor geek glasses!

Leopard will never go out of style!  Easy to look tacky, but doesn't have to be!

Floral shirt

Remember me?

I'm Not usually one to wear flowers but this floral tunic style top from Lane Bryant.  VIA the thrift store, said "WEAR ME!"  So I did.  And I really love it!  It's perfectly summery!  And that's the best to me, since I love summer and hate to see it end.  I paired it with my shell and gold necklace which I love and my glorious Jersey tan!

Birthday Dress...ASOS

My birthday this year was quite the celebration and nothing made me happier than finally whipping out this bad boy to wear!  I bought it a while ago, but new I was going to wear it on July 8th (B-DAY) and its sooo beautiful!  I'm not really a flower person but Asos does it right.  The cut, the material and the color was so flattering.  I got it in a US 16, something told me it would run big and it I was right because the 16 fit perfectly.  Paired it with this jean jacket I scored from Re/Dress NYC when they use to have their flagship store in Brooklyn and sandals from DSW!

Here I am waiting for the train to head home!

Thanks for looking!

Love this Skirt

In the past couple of years, I believe things have shaken up a bit at Lane Bryant, because their clothes are getting cuter and cuter!  This skirt I actually bought last Summer and wore it a few times but never photographed.  On this Hot Jersey City day I paired with a stripped shirt from Forever21 that I had for a while and BAM!  My natural hair topped it off!

This was a good night!

Color and Pattern

I'm not gonna lie I love black.  It makes me feel comfortable and always in, because contrary to popular belief it will never go out!  But when I had a performance at school for R&B Pop/Ensemble the teacher/band leader said, "Samille wear color, you always wear black"!  I was like, "EEK...GAD", he noticed?  That means they all notice so I was like okay, okay!  I will!  I had this Fuscia cut-out racer back button up from Forever21 for a while and then after I bought it I thought, ITS NOT ME!!!  Cut outs?  I don't know if I could say I am that comfortable wearing something like that!  But I must have bought it for a reason.  So the  thought came to me that the color mixed with these pattern tights from Torrid, could work.  So off I went.  I tried to pair my lipstick to match.  I think I did a okay job.  Not a full blown Make-up-ista, but it was decent!

Asos Peplum

I've been eyeing this stripped Asos Peplum for a while now!  For one, I love stripes, ( in fact I'm wearing tripes right now!) but I was also unsure of the peplum style.  Considering I carry most of my weight in my stomach ( I don't like it and am working on it) I was afraid it wound enhance it.  But I'm actually really happy with the peplum style, and plan to incorporate more into my wardrobe.  I also think its a great way to make any outfit more feminine, without adding flowers n such.  I paired it with this stretchy bandage skirt I've had in my closet for a while  Different from the pencil skirt by Kiyonna from the last post.  But just as cute n comfy.  Paired it with my favorite thrifted bag I've been rocking for the past few months n whipped out these Steve Madden boots that I've been dying to wear.  Since I could never get my hands on the Jeffrey Campbell starburst these were the next best thing.  I wore my LOVE earrings from Asos too!  Didn't really get to see them in these pics but check out my INSTAGRAM @thickspot, you will see them there.  It felt good.

Kiyonna Pencil Skirt

If you follow me on INSTAGRAM @thickspot then you know I have made the plunge and got my first weave!  It was for a look in particular that I was going for, but honestly I am in love!  I got it done by a fabulous hair stylist that goes by the name of the, Weave Dr.!  How appealing right?  And sooo worth it and now I plan to try more styles and more things in the near future.

With that said, this post is really about one of my closet's most essential items.  This Black Pencil Skirt by Kiyonna that I got at K-Station Plus size Boutique in Baltimore last October.  If you missed it, read it Here.  I have worn this many times but never had anyone to really take any pics of me!  I got my friend to snap some before I took it down for the evening.  So chic!  The Boutique owner sold me on it by making sure I understood that the construction of the skirt was official and it was something that wouldn't rip easily or get too worn in.  That it is a staple item to last forever, classic and always in style.  So with that I had to have it!  I have already got a lot of wear out of it.  This was more of a professional serious look.  I had other boots on when I first went outside that day.  But my feet started to hurt so I opted for my black sweater boots from K-Mart!  So comfortable.

Hopefully when I go to visit my sister this summer I can stop in at K-Station again for a another splurge the owner Jade is always ready to help.

My week in Performance

Not everything on this blog is about fashion.  I mean its about my... life!  And as much as I love clothes, and shoes, and make up, and purses, I really, really LOVE theatre!

My first love has always been theatre.  And many of you know I sing and act and perform.  And being a big girl on stage is just as much of a challenge as being a big girl in everyday life.  No pitty party here, just being real.  People are more offended by my fat and YOUR fat than I am.  And when it is center stage people may feel uncomfortable.  The costume designer is busy trying to find something to make you feel comfortable, to make the director feel comfortable and the audience.  This has always been the case for me being on stage since I can remember.  So this past week I was in CABARET the musical as a dancer (go figure) and it was a lot of fun.  The costume of course as I said was challenging.  My costume consisted of a pair of leggings from TORRID, a black sequin shirt from TORRID and my own K-MART LOVE YOUR STYLE shorts from their very first season.  Not to mention the SPANXX!  The costume designer added some sequins and fringe to the shorts.

I also performed in CONNETICUT with the UNITY ENSEMBLE here on Campus as NJCU!  Our usual attire is all black with our on African flare.  I wore DKNY pants from Lane Bryant and a blouse from H&M!

However, coming up I have this scholarship benefit concert here at NJCU that the head of the department asked me to be a part of, and its turning into something bigger than I originally though.  I am in search for a gown.  Like OPERA/DIVA style.  And that is something I am not use to shopping for.  This should be interesting.  The last picture is a pic of my friend Richard staring at my poster.

Hope u enjoy, there will be a fashion post soon!

Burnt leggings. Rainy day!

So as you have noticed I haven't blogged in a while.  I've been busy, busy, busy!  I haven't had time for much.  However I am itching to do sooo many wonderful things.  This is my spring brek and I am currently in rehearsal for two shows.  This spring break is being spent on CABARET.  NJCU's spring musical.  I promised myself I make time for blogging over my break.  All pieces of this outfit has been on my blog before, just not together.

It was raining from the moment I woke up today which makes it very difficult for me to go about my business, mainly because I get gloomy and lazy.  To counter-act that I decided to go for a brighter outfit to make my errand running a little bit easier.  And by the time I got to school for rehearsal there was a moment of sunshine so I got one of my classmates to snap some pics.  Wild hair styled by the humidy, some vender geek glasses made this look very me!

OOTD: WELCOME BACK!

My 2nd to last semester started on Tuesday and I was feeling it.  It was cold as hell but I'm not gonna lie I was glad to be back.  Speaking of cold it seems to be getting colder and colder everyday and now I think I'm coming down with something.

I hope you guys enjoy this post compared to the last one.  The last one for some reason just wouldn't show up right for whatever reason.

I did wear a hugely oversized coat on the first day too!  But these shows just display the outfit.  I wish I could have got more shots of my earrings.  They were fab!  Next time tho!  Promise.

Don't forget to follow me on INSTAGRAM @thickspot!!!

PEACE AND LOVE

2012 wrap up

Happy New Year to all of my followers. I am really looking forward to 2013. 2012 was a year of theatrical, academic and spiritual strides for me. I leave it feeling grounded and content. I felt so blessed in 2012, it was definitely the best year yet since I've been in Jersey City and I say that even though I got my heart broke into a million pieces in this past year. But to have done 2 plays outside of school while in school, to win a statewide singing competition, to make it to the next round of the South Eastern Theatre Conference and to have completed my first ever Opera made it very special and I leave it with a sense of accomplishment. I was struggling in a couple of classes in school and passed them this year! I also stated reading scripture and other works of comparative religion and made praying a part of my everyday routine by continuing the practice in itself. Man I can't say it wasn't too shabby. It was alright, I feel blessed. Of course there were some setbacks but this year the positives actually outweighed the negatives and I can only hope 2013 does the same.

Here is a wrap up of 2012 VIA Instagram!

 theparty6_zps780eebe9.jpg

I performed a lot in 2012!  I did two shows outside of school, Won first place in the NATS competition and completed a lot of gigs.  And I believe grew a lot artistically.

In August I was reunited with another friend that I haven't seen in like 7 years or so!

And Our President WON!!!!

All in all 2012 was a year of accomplishments and I am very happy that I am able to look back on it through my blog. I am really looking forward to 2013 and starting some new resolutions. My next post will be about resolutions. I hope everyone is enjoying their new year!
