Name: Jill
Age: 27
Blog Name: JillybeansTALK, http://jillybeanstalk.blogspot.com/
Occupation: I work for a non profit doing community development and revitalization efforts in a Scranton neighborhood.
Birthplace: Scranton, PA
Currently reside: Scranton, PA
1) What inspired you to start blogging?
I have to be honest here.. but when ASOS Curve was about to launch, they sent bloggers clothing samples to review, and I was so jealous! Since I'm a girl on a VERY limited budget, I kind of wanted free fabulous clothes. So I thought, why not blog? I knew I had a decent style, and I thought having a blog would be a great way to not only challenge myself but development relationships in the fashion and blogging communities.
2) How would you describe your fashion style?
I never really know how to answer this question, because it really depends on the day and season. Sometimes I feel like dressing in black and having my accessories match with studs and combat boots, AND then sometimes I wake up wanting to look very girly and romantic. In general I try to keep things fairly simple yet stylish.
3) Where you currently reside does your style reflect where you live, or do you stand out? If so then how?
The Scranton area is very conservative when it comes to style... very cookie cutter. However, there are some fantasticly stylish people here who mostly run in the arts crowd (aren't they almost always the most stylish?). I have to say they have the best style here in Scranton, and they should probably have their own personal style blogs, but as far as I know I'm the only one with a blog! CRAZY! But I tend to dress more conservatively than other fashion bloggers, because I don't normally like standing out. BUT, it's fairly easy to stand out here with your fashion choices too. It doesn't matter what kind of dress I'm wearing, if I'm wearing one, I usually get a few comments on how I'm "dressed" up!
4) Who are your top 3 fashion icons?
I don't really have fashion icons. ICK.. I know, I know. It kind of seems bizarre to even admit it. But I really admire a lot of bloggers out there who are unique but don't over do it. I also think Chanel will be classic for centuries, and I find a lot of inspiration in the clothing styles and silhouettes of the 1930s-1950s (even if I don't really dress like I do). Rock n Roll goddesses will always be classic to me too!
5) What's your favorite fashion trend going on right now?
I'm really liking the Aztec and western prints. I need to score something before it goes out of style! Also, I'd love a pair of red jeans, but haven't been able to score any yet too.
6) How do you incorporate your favorite fashion trend right now in your day to day wardrobe?
Sadly, I'm not! But, if I do partake in a trend, I usually buy an accessory or a piece that I will be able to wear for years and not just a season.
7) Your favorite magazine to read?
Either Lucky, InStyle or Glamour! I subscribe to Vogue but I have to admit I don't get much inspiration from it (probably because I can never afford anything in it).
8) What fashion item can you Not live without?
DENIM! I wear it almost everyday, and if I'm not wearing them, I feel naked.
9) What's your favorite color?
Honestly, I don't have a favorite color. I really like them all. My closet is color coordinated, and I have something in almost every color, but an overwhelming majority of my items are black or white.
10) Can your please name some everyday staples in your purse?
My phone, ipod, gum, a small makeup bag with lipgloss, chapstick, translucent powder, toothpaste, etc., and an ultra fine point Sharpie (I like writing with Sharpies more than pens).
11) Was there a time in the past where you felt like being plus-sized prevented you from expressing yourself in a fashionable way?
I've always been in the middle with plus size sizing (14-20), so luckily I've always been able to shop in most department stores. However, I really wish places like ASOS Curve, Forever 21 Plus, etc., were around when I was in high school or my early 20s. And, of course, I sometimes wish stores were more current on trends and stocked more of them in affordable prices in their stores and on plus size sites.
12) Your top 3 favorite stores to shop in?
Old Navy, Target and Avenue.
13) Your favorite bands and/or music artist?
My favorite band is definitely Kings of Leon. I hate to say it, but I've been listening to them since they started almost ten years ago! If you haven't heard of or checked out their albums before Sex on Fire came out, then you must! Other than them, I'm not really tied to any other musical acts. I tend to like songs or genres more than artists anymore. I listen mostly to rock/alternative, but I love a good pop or country (if it's Tim McGraw) song. I'll also buy Lady Gaga's stuff as well.
14) Does your blog have a mission statement and if so what is it?
Not really.. I should probably have one though.. but I just like to showcase my futile attempt at style and interject my love of Scranton in there sometimes as well.
15) Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I'm not really a goal planner. I should be; the experts recommend it, but I just kind of like living life and seeing where it takes me. Ideally, I'd love to have a family of my own in 5 years, so I better get moving on finding a decent man ;)
