Color and Pattern

I'm not gonna lie I love black.  It makes me feel comfortable and always in, because contrary to popular belief it will never go out!  But when I had a performance at school for R&B Pop/Ensemble the teacher/band leader said, "Samille wear color, you always wear black"!  I was like, "EEK...GAD", he noticed?  That means they all notice so I was like okay, okay!  I will!  I had this Fuscia cut-out racer back button up from Forever21 for a while and then after I bought it I thought, ITS NOT ME!!!  Cut outs?  I don't know if I could say I am that comfortable wearing something like that!  But I must have bought it for a reason.  So the  thought came to me that the color mixed with these pattern tights from Torrid, could work.  So off I went.  I tried to pair my lipstick to match.  I think I did a okay job.  Not a full blown Make-up-ista, but it was decent!

Asos Peplum

 

I've been eyeing this stripped Asos Peplum for a while now!  For one, I love stripes, ( in fact I'm wearing tripes right now!) but I was also unsure of the peplum style.  Considering I carry most of my weight in my stomach ( I don't like it and am working on it) I was afraid it wound enhance it.  But I'm actually really happy with the peplum style, and plan to incorporate more into my wardrobe.  I also think its a great way to make any outfit more feminine, without adding flowers n such.  I paired it with this stretchy bandage skirt I've had in my closet for a while  Different from the pencil skirt by Kiyonna from the last post.  But just as cute n comfy.  Paired it with my favorite thrifted bag I've been rocking for the past few months n whipped out these Steve Madden boots that I've been dying to wear.  Since I could never get my hands on the Jeffrey Campbell starburst these were the next best thing.  I wore my LOVE earrings from Asos too!  Didn't really get to see them in these pics but check out my INSTAGRAM @thickspot, you will see them there.  It felt good.

My week in Performance

Not everything on this blog is about fashion.  I mean its about my... life!  And as much as I love clothes, and shoes, and make up, and purses, I really, really LOVE theatre! 

 

My first love has always been theatre.  And many of you know I sing and act and perform.  And being a big girl on stage is just as much of a challenge as being a big girl in everyday life.  No pitty party here, just being real.  People are more offended by my fat and YOUR fat than I am.  And when it is center stage people may feel uncomfortable.  The costume designer is busy trying to find something to make you feel comfortable, to make the director feel comfortable and the audience.  This has always been the case for me being on stage since I can remember.  So this past week I was in CABARET the musical as a dancer (go figure) and it was a lot of fun.  The costume of course as I said was challenging.  My costume consisted of a pair of leggings from TORRID, a black sequin shirt from TORRID and my own K-MART LOVE YOUR STYLE shorts from their very first season.  Not to mention the SPANXX!  The costume designer added some sequins and fringe to the shorts.

 

 

I also performed in CONNETICUT with the UNITY ENSEMBLE here on Campus as NJCU!  Our usual attire is all black with our on African flare.  I wore DKNY pants from Lane Bryant and a blouse from H&M!

 

 

However, coming up I have this scholarship benefit concert here at NJCU that the head of the department asked me to be a part of, and its turning into something bigger than I originally though.  I am in search for a gown.  Like OPERA/DIVA style.  And that is something I am not use to shopping for.  This should be interesting.  The last picture is a pic of my friend Richard staring at my poster.

OOTD: WELCOME BACK!

My 2nd to last semester started on Tuesday and I was feeling it.  It was cold as hell but I'm not gonna lie I was glad to be back.  Speaking of cold it seems to be getting colder and colder everyday and now I think I'm coming down with something. 

I hope you guys enjoy this post compared to the last one.  The last one for some reason just wouldn't show up right for whatever reason.

I did wear a hugely oversized coat on the first day too!  But these shows just display the outfit.  I wish I could have got more shots of my earrings.  They were fab!  Next time tho!  Promise.

Flowers??? A lil bit!

 

 

 

 I never posted these pics although I did post one or two of them on my instagram when I first took them.  I thought my hair looked absolutely insane and my yellow bra I wore underneath this sheer shirt was exposed by the Camera's flash.  However looking back at them I realized WOW I look smaller here.  So now I love them.  This was at my height of doing meatless Mondays and eating better so I finally decided to share. 

Flowers?  Yeah, I'm not the type of chick that particularly loves flowers.  I mean I love getting them and smelling them and all that cute shit.  But I don't really like wearing them.  It's Not me!!!  However, every once in a while you find a floral print u fall in love with and gotta have.  I love this shirt.  The flowers, how sheer it is, and how it hangs off the body.  So comfortable and forgiving yet stylish.  I got it from K-MART.  I say often, "Don't sleep on K-MART", that LYS collection for the curvy women is so brilliant.  Offering u the styles and price every woman can adore.  As for the bra, let me tell you, I am a firm believer in wearing colorful undergarments.  Sometimes not realizing they are exposed.  But they make me feel sexy and people usually seem surprised that a big girl can find colorful bras and undies and even more shocked that she has the audacity to wear them.  Most of my under garments are extremely flamboyant.  Sorry if my bra showing looks tacky.  I really didn't know.

OOTD: Well... Many days ago!

This was an outfit I wore last week.  Just finally got around to making a outfit post about it.  I really love this purse.  I found it at my favorite thrift store in Hamilton NJ and it was only $3.99 and I believe its by Style and Company.  Real leather too!  That was a good trip.  I got a lot of great finds that day.  The outfit itself is real simple... I threw it together.  The Jean button up shirt is from the Men's section at Walmart, the tunic is from Marshalls and the boots are from Torrid.  I was happy to find a cheap jean shirt since its pretty on trend this season.  The crazy thing is some places are charging you like $44 for something you can find at a thrift store or at a place like Walmart for like $12!  My hair is like forever pulled back because its growing back funny.  I hate it!  {Sigh}  I don't know what to do with it.  Something has to change soon.

Hiatus over!

I know I haven't blogged since July.  Honestly a lot has happened in my life in the past few months that made it difficult to continue blogging.  But I am ready to enter into this world again.  Resilant and ready!  I hope my followers are still with me.  If u follow me on twitter (@thickspot) or instagram (@thickspot) you may have been keeping up with my rants.  From relationship woes to sensational stage achievements.  As you may know by know I am a musical theatre performer.  A singer, a actor and this summer I worked on and just recently completed my very first Opera!  It was a blast.  But now I am back to my school work.  I'm in my senior year of college and I am just trying to stay focus to complete everything that I need to complete and to continue learning since there is always more to know.  I'm still performing and I love that.  Still creating, and still shopping.  Still reading NYLON MAGAZINE, and keeping up with the blogs and bloggers that I fell in love with long before my own blog begin.

Yesterday I tweeted a pic of a semi-simple outfit that I took a self portrait of on INSTAGRAM.  There I said how I was looking for someone to take pictures of me in it.  Well my girl Shay came through for me and here it is.  I hope you enjoy, and welcome me back with open arms.

JC fridays!

As I said in my last post.  June 1st marked JC Fridays in Jersey City, it happens four times a year at the turn of every season.  The weather was back and forth yesterday.  Hot, chilly, rainy but the show must go on.  I was the 7:30 talent.  I had a 30 minute set that went pretty darn good.  I was there in the company of fellow artists, which I love.  Some friends.

I wore this shirt I got a while back from my favorite thrift store in south Jersey.  It's actually a great addition to my wardrobe and on time with the high/low trend going on right now.  It was shorter in the front and longer in the back.  Because it was so windy it blew my shirt open quite a bit to expose my stomach.  (TUMMY TIME)  Which is also a trend.  And as a fat girl to take part in the semi-crop top trend I felt like I was doing my duty.  Even though it's a trend that some small and large people would look down upon any girl with a few extra pounds on her partaking in it.  But I did it.  It was fun.  I mean Sheesh* it's almost summer!!!

1st day of SUMMER! All I really wanted!

This past week has been shitty!  Truly shitty to say the least.  But like the seasons change I too must go on!  To awaken the real ME, I got myself together and went out with my beloved Liam on one of our minnie adventures.  When U're down in the dumps all there is to do is to pray, hang tight with your close friends, and throw on something that makes u happy!  This shirt or Blouse is old, probably a couple summers old.  I believe I wore it in my earlier years of my blog.  And I don't really do too many flowers, but this is top is cute.  Pale, pastel that will be "IN" every summer allowing the sun to hit it ever so nicely.  My favorite shorts from last summer from TORRID, and my new FABULOUS sandals from K-MART!  The gems u find there are amazing!  Don't sleep on K-Mart!  If u follow me on INSTAGRAM than U probably have already seen a few of these pics!  And if u don't, come and check out (((thickspot)))... follow me!  I post up there far more regular than the blog!  :(

I'm performing tonight in Jersey City for a cty wide event called JC fridays.  A little singing and some poetry, so this should get my mind off things and it should be a blast!  Hope u are all having a wonderful day.  Enjoying our first full day of summer.  NJ comes alive this time a year, I absolutely love it and I will be singing and partying all night!  Like the artist that I am.

NJFFF WEEK!

2 weeekends ago I went to New Jersey Full Figured Fashion week, courtesy of MANIK MAGAZINE, which I also work for that will be relaunching this month.  Most of the goodies I experienced will be featured in this online Mag, but here was my outft post for the last day of the 3 day event which I only spent 2 days at.  Nothing that special because I needed to be on my feet, and I haven't really been shopping in forever, because I'm a broke college student.  But I did whip out my new flats from DSW!
